After a three-year interruption, Vietnam Airlines is set to resume direct flights between Hanoi and Moscow starting May 8th, according to TASS news agency. The Vietnamese flag carrier will initially operate flights twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, using Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft. By 2026, the frequency is expected to increase to three flights per week. The resumption of air travel between Vietnam and Russia aims to provide passengers with more convenient and secure travel options, fostering bilateral relations in trade, investment, and cultural exchanges. Vietnam Airlines has emphasized the importance of the Russian market for Vietnamese tourism and trade. In 2024, passenger traffic between the two countries exceeded 220,000, a 2.3-fold increase compared to the previous year, although still only 26% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
