Deep in Cappadocia, Turkey, lies Avanos, a town known for its pottery. But it's also home to the Avanos Hair Museum, founded by potter Chez Galip. It began in the 1970s when a friend leaving Avanos gifted Galip a lock of her hair. He displayed it in his workshop, and soon, other women left their hair, too. Today, the museum is a cave filled with over 16,000 hair samples from women worldwide, each labeled with the donor's name and hometown. Visitors describe the experience as strange and moving. Twice a year, lucky visitors can select ten hair samples, and the donors are invited back for a free week of pottery classes and accommodation. The museum has become a popular destination, attracting celebrities and royalty. Entry costs around 50 TL, but is free with a purchase from Galip's shop. Open daily from 8:30 AM to 7:30 PM, visits require an appointment with Galip.
