The adoption center and the Cat Haven cat café opened in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on 25 October 2026. The Cat Haven organization marked the launch of the new facility at 530 Shadows Lane, where visitors can meet the cats and help promote their adoption.
The celebratory ceremony included games, refreshments and face painting for children. Guests could interact with the animals in the café's comfortable setting, which helps potential owners better learn each cat's personality before deciding to adopt.
The new center combines the functions of a shelter and a public space: the cats live here in conditions close to a home environment, and visitors pay for time in the café, with part of the proceeds going toward the animals' care and adoption programs.
Such establishments have already proven effective in other U.S. cities: regular interaction with people reduces stress in cats and improves their chances of a successful adoption. In Baton Rouge, the Cat Haven project complements the existing infrastructure for helping homeless animals.
The opening highlights the growing interest in the cat café format as a tool for addressing the problem of cat homelessness in the region.
