How to Help Your Cat Beat the Summer Heat

Edited by: Екатерина С.

Summer heat can be tough on cats. They can overheat quickly because they don't have many ways to cool down.

Here are some easy tips to help your feline friend stay comfortable.

Always provide fresh water in multiple bowls around the house. Consider a pet water fountain, as many cats prefer running water.

Use cooling mats or damp towels for your cat to relax on. Make sure your cat can choose where to sit. You can also wrap frozen peas or ice packs in towels and place them near your cat's favorite spot. Gently wipe your cat with a damp cloth for a cooling effect.

Keep your home cool by opening windows in the morning or evening. Close blinds or curtains during the day. Cats love cool places, so offer shady spots like cool tile floors or a bathroom with cool surfaces.

Regular brushing removes loose fur and helps keep your cat cool. For long-haired cats, a trim might be helpful, but always consult your vet. Protect your cat from direct sunlight to prevent sunburn.

Play with your cat in the cooler morning or evening hours. Cats naturally slow down their activity in the heat. Watch for signs of overheating, such as increased breathing, panting, restlessness, or vomiting. If you're concerned about your cat's health, contact your vet.
