Meet Stanley: The Heroic Dog Donating Blood to Save Lives

Edited by: Екатерина С.

Stanley, a spirited pit bull, knows exactly what his Sunday trips entail. As he hops into the car, his tail wags with excitement. While his sister usually accompanies him, today it's just him and Mom heading to the BluePearl Pet Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. Here, Stanley gets to lie on a cozy blanket, receive belly rubs, and enjoy plenty of treats.

But there's a noble purpose behind these visits: Stanley donates blood to help save the lives of other dogs. At nearly five years old, Stanley is a tripod, having lost his back left leg after a tragic accident as a puppy. Despite this, he remains playful and affectionate, embodying the spirit of a true hero.

During his recent visit, Stanley made his 17th donation, marking three years of being a lifesaver. His owner, Jen Joern, recalls how she fell in love with him when she first fostered him through a rescue group. "He is, by far, the happiest," she says.

Every three months, Stanley donates blood, contributing over two gallons so far. Each donation can save up to three other dogs in need. With the increasing demand for blood due to surgeries and treatments, veterinarians are calling for more donors. Stanley’s contributions are a vital part of this effort.

As the vet prepares for the donation, Stanley relaxes, knowing he’s helping others. After his donation, he receives treats and pats, happy to have made a difference. "It takes us less than an hour. Stanley loves the attention. And I know he's making a difference," Joern shares.

Stanley’s story is not just about giving blood; it’s about the joy and love he spreads along the way. His cheerful spirit reminds us of the incredible bond between pets and their humans, and the lives they can save together.
