TelQuel and Jankari Consulting are spotlighting Al Akhawayn University (AUI) alumni, including Mounya Elhilali, a 1998 engineering graduate. She is now a professor at Johns Hopkins University.
Elhilali founded the Computational Audio Perception Lab. Her research explores how the brain and machines process sound, bridging neuroscience and engineering. She develops brain function models to understand human intelligence and create intelligent machines.
Elhilali's work has led to audio technologies for medical diagnostics and assisted listening. She has secured over $20 million in research funding. She holds appointments in multiple departments and is affiliated with research centers at Johns Hopkins.
Elhilali has received several awards, including the JHU Catalyst Award and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). These accolades recognize her innovative research and its impact.
