Apple explores mind control: partnering with Synchron for brain-computer interface technology

Edited by: Maria Sagir🐬 Mariamarina0506

Apple is reportedly collaborating with Synchron to develop brain-computer interface (BCI) technology. This technology would allow users to control iPhones and other Apple devices with their minds. The aim is to aid individuals with severe physical disabilities like ALS and spinal cord injuries. The collaboration, reported by The Wall Street Journal, involves Synchron's Stentrode device. This device is a minimally invasive implant placed in blood vessels near the brain's motor cortex. It translates brain signals into commands for digital devices. Currently, the technology is being tested as an accessibility feature on Apple devices. One user with ALS is already exploring virtual landscapes and operating Apple devices using only his mind. While still in early stages, this BCI integration shows great potential for accessibility. Apple has not officially announced the partnership, but has a history of healthcare and accessibility innovations. Synchron's CEO mentioned Apple is developing a dedicated interface standard for BCI control. This partnership could lead to a new era of device interaction for many users.
